Do we need shows like the Final Table?

Throughout the show, we are treated with beautiful looking dishes from talented chefs that have been participating from various parts of the globe.

In the era of the global shortage of food, there comes an over the top culinary food show “The Final Table” that was aired on Netflix. The real purpose of the show is to give a chef a seat at the final table with the culinary masters of different nationalities. But in the journey to find that chef, the contestants have to pair up with a chef and create traditional dishes in their own way. Throughout the show, we are treated with beautiful looking dishes from talented chefs that have been participating from various parts of the globe.

As I see it, the show has its highs and lows. But, one thing is certain that I was unaware of the facts that the chefs go through a lot before becoming a master chef and after they become what they are ought to, work even harder to remain at the pinnacle of success. We as a society somehow undermine their sacrifices and do not relate to their personal struggles. The Final Table shows that and more. It made me respect these chefs and relate to their personal triumphs.

I was also unaware of various culinary traditions and dishes. Got to see past Pizza, Pasta, Burgers, and other known dishes. The fact that the show was broadcasted live made me admire it more. Though it was chaotic at times and I failed to keep track of all the developments, but that is how dishes are created in Michelin star restaurants perhaps.

As the world will eventually go past the post material stage, food will be something that people will invest in. That is why the show has been criticized to take a western outlook. The west has already stepped to the post material stage that is why the show reflects that.

In spite of all the flaws, the show touches the heart at various stages and the food tasting at the end by great chefs left me awestruck. The judge chefs were humble and insightful. They showed that this industry is full of perfectionists and we need that. We need food from various parts of the world to represent their culture and as ambassadors, they are justifying their position.
